Senior Boys & Girls Win COMBOS Basketball

Our new indoor court provided a perfect venue for COMBOS Basketball in February. After CIS dropped out at the last minute, we were in limbo, so invited Lyceum International School, Nugegoda instead.

Our Middle Boys’ team defeated British and Stafford easily but lost in the final to Lyceum. The Middle Girls lost 26-12 to Lyceum in their opening match but defeated British to reach the final. They played far better against Lyceum second time round in a very close match but were unlucky to lose 24- 22. Both our teams benefitted from the match practice and improved a lot over the tournament. The Senior Boys were easily the best team in their tournament and won all their games comfortably, including the final. The opening minutes of their group game against British School showed the team at their best, with great teamwork, committed defence and superb passing overwhelming the opposition and opening up a huge lead very fast. The Senior Girls qualified for the final after winning their group matches against British and Lyceum. The final against British was extremely close, with the girls coming from behind in a thrilling finish to win 24-23.

It was a fitting finale for Captains Jack Shearer and Darya Handunnetti, who lifted the trophies after their final matches for the school, with it also being the last tournament for Avlok Wignaraja.
