Football Team Reach Under-20 Final

Our Under-20 Football team reached the final of the senior Inter-International Schools’ tournament for the second time in three years in November. They finished top of their group after comfortable victories against Horizon, CIS and Wycherley, scoring sixteen goals in three games and only conceding one. In the quarter-final, they came back from 2-0 down to beat the British School 4-3 in a gripping game. The semi-final against Gateway, Kandy was even closer. The boys again came from behind to draw 4-4, before winning 7-6 on penalties, with Senuk Dias both saving Gateway’s final penalty and scoring the winning penalty. The boys struggled on a very wet pitch in the final but put up a good fight against a strong Gateway team, cheered on throughout by a big crowd of supporters. This was the 5 th and last Inter-International Schools’ final for Captain Isaac Okoro, Jack Shearer and Ammaar Rishad, despite missing tournaments for two years because of the pandemic, having won the Under 14 tournament all the way back when they were in Form 1.
