December 2024 : Moir Students Win Gold Medal at Robotics Olympiad in Athens

Elizabeth Moir School was invited by FIRST Global to organise the team to represent Sri Lanka in its annual Robotics Olympiad for the 8th consecutive year. After months of hard work throughout the summer holidays designing and building the robot, Team Sri Lanka finished 6th out of 191 countries and won Gold Medals for Engineering Design after winning the Zhang Heng Award, the most prestigious prize for technical achievement awarded to teams whose robot exhibits excellent engineering and displays excellence and effectiveness.

The FIRST Global is a huge international event. With standards rising each year, for our teams to continue to perform so well each year is hugely impressive and a credit to the hard work and commitment of the students. This year the opening ceremony was held in the Panathenaic Stadium, the venue for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, on the site developed by Lycurgus for the ancient Panathenaic Games in 400 BC. The ceremony included a performance by will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas.
