15 Students Offered Places at Top Ten Universities in World

Tharul Senanayake was offered a place at Yale, the second oldest Ivy League college, with financial aid worth over $100,000 per year, covering the full cost of tuition, accommodation, food and travel. Other recipients of financial aid at US universities included Okitha Karunadhara, who will receive $93,000 a year to attend Bates College, and Rashida Rehmanjee at Wesleyan, both leading Liberal Arts colleges.

Rajindu Normanbhoy and Savith Wijesundara have offers from Oxford, adding to our incredible recent record of Oxbridge admissions. Over half of current Sri Lankan undergraduates at Oxford and Cambridge are Moir students.

Three students were offered places in the UK to study Medicine, which remains by far the most competitive course for international students. This includes our Captain of School, Upekha Gunawansa, who became our first ever student to be offered a place for Medicine at Imperial College London, ranked 2 nd in the world in the QS Rankings. Two other students received offers from Imperial, including Lisara Jeewandara, who will study Mathematics and Computer Science. Elisabeth Deraniyagala accepted an offer to study Veterinary Science from Edinburgh, rejecting the Royal Veterinary College.

Seven students were offered places at University College London, ranked 9 th in the world in The Times Higher Education rankings, while eight have offers from the London School of Economics, which is ranked 1 st in the UK in The Times Higher Education rankings, above Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial, but ranks lower in world rankings as it does not offer all subjects. Students have accepted offers from UCL and LSE for courses ranging from Law to Economics to Maths and Statistics. Other students have accepted offers from universities including Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester and Warwick for courses ranging from Architecture to Engineering.

Nethinu Dissanayake was offered a scholarship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Students going to other countries will apply after they receive their A Level results. Among last year’s students, Medicine was a popular option, with Lisari Hettiarachchi earning a scholarship at Griffith University in Brisbane, Chathuli Akarawita receiving a scholarship at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus and three students starting at IMU in Malaysia.
