Swimmers win 17 medals in Inter-International Championship

The Inter-International Schools’ Swimming Championship is one of the most competitive events of the year, and of the entire Swimming calendar, with the best swimmers out of more than 40,000 students who attend international schools competing. In Moir’s best performance for years, we were in 6 th place at the end of the first day, behind only Lyceum branches and Gateway, that have thousands of students, before finishing 8 th overall.

Despite competing against older students, Okitha Gunasekera broke a record in the 200m Individual Medley by over three seconds, as well as winning Gold in 100m Freestyle and Bronze in 200m Freestyle. Swimming Captain Vidul Kumarawadu won Silver in 50m and 100m Butterly, missing Gold by 0.3 seconds in the former, and finished 4 th in 100m Backstroke. Danudi Wickramarathne won Gold in 50m Breaststroke, Silver in 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in 50m Backstroke. Yenuka Rupasingha won Bronze in both 50m and 200m Freestyle, Aheli Joseph won Silver in 100m Backstroke, Carter Joseph won Silver and Bronze in 50m and 100m Backstroke, and Aryan Christopher Bronze in 200m Individual Medley.

The Relays provide great excitement and some close finishes. Our Under 20 Boys’ team of Vidul, Okitha, Seth Fernando and Viresh Wijesinghe won Bronze in both Medley and Freestyle Relays, while the Under 14 Boys’ team of Carter, Aryan, Akindu Sellahewa and Siyath Hettiarachchi won Bronze in the Medley Relay. The Under 16 Girls’ finished 4 th in both relays, as did our Mixed Open team.
