Congratulations to our Cricket team on reaching the final of the COMBOS Cricket tournament in September. Having scored 56-2 in 6 overs in their opening match against CIS, CIS needed 11 runs to win in the final over, bowled by Nirvaan Kanag-Isvaran, but lost two wickets and could only score 2 runs, to finish on 48-6. Defending 51-2 in their second match, tight bowling left the British School needing a 6 off the last ball to tie, which they managed, before we won on the toss of a coin. In the final group match, both new Captain Sanuga Kariyawasam and Jarryd Ratwatte were retired after passing 30, Sanuga off just 13 balls, but Stafford chased down a challenging target. The same teams met in the final, with the same result, but our boys could be pleased with their performance in a fun day’s cricket.
Our team also played impressively in the Under-19 Inter-International Schools tournament in July, winning three matches and only losing to different Lyceum teams. The highlights were then Captain Chinmayan scoring 60 off only 41 balls in a 9-wicket win over Wycherley and sharing an unbeaten 121-run partnership with Jarryd in a 9-wicked win over the British School, Sanuga scoring 51 after taking two wickets in our victory over St. Nicholas International College, Himayath and Dinuk putting on 94 after coming in at 16-3 against a strong team from Lyceum, Panadura and Jarryd averaging 44 in the tournament despite only being in Form 3.
