U20 Girls Retain TISSL Football Trophy Again

The Under 20 Girls’ Football team won the Inter-International Schools Football Championship for the fourth time in a row to maintain their proud unbeaten record: they have not lost to a school team here since 2019.

They qualified for the semi-finals with comfortable victories over the British School and Stafford. They beat Gateway in the Semi-Final before defeating CIS 4-0 in the final. Such was our dominance and the strength of our midfield and defence that goalkeeper Maleesa Gunasinghe did not touch the ball once in the entire tournament.

Congratulations to Captain Niara Wijeyasinghe, who again won the Golden Boot as the top goal scorer after scoring 8 goals in the competition, and to Seneli Jayawardane, who won the MVP award.

Earlier in the term, the Under 18 Boys’ team qualified top of their group in their tournament, after comfortable victories against Lyceum International School, Pandura and Lyceum, Wattala. They won their quarter-final against Horizon College 4-0 but lost to old rivals Gateway College in the semi-final. Our Under 14 Boys won 3-0 against St. Nicholas’ International School and drew 1-1 against hosts Royal Institute but did not qualify, having suffered a disappointing loss in their opening game against Lyceum, Ratnapura. As a very young team, with 5 Junior School players, some as young as 9, they showed great team spirit and commitment and learnt a lot from the experience.
