March 2026 : Girls win 5th consecutive Under-20 Championship

The Girls’ Football team retained their Under-20 Inter-International Schools’ Championship in February, to win their fifth trophy in a row, and extend their incredible record of not having lost a match to another school team since 2019. They also won matches this term against teams from Colombo University and the Police. The girls’ victory completed a clean sweep of senior trophies, after our Under-16 and Under-18 Girls won their tournaments earlier in the year, The girls reached the final after comfortable victories over CIS and the British School. The final against Gateway College, Colombo was a close match. A vital save by goalkeeper Maleesa Gunasinghe kept us in the game while Eva De Silva held the team together in the centre of midfield. A last-minute penalty was converted by Captain Niara Wijeyasinghe to seal the victory, contributing to her winning the Golden Boot for the tournament.

This was the final match, and final trophy, for a group of Upper 6 girls who started playing together at the Junior School and have formed the core of our team since we won the tournament in 2020, when they were in Form 1. Niara, Seneli Jayawardane, Eleonore Liyanage and Annika Perera have played in all our winning teams since then; if not for Covid, they would now have seven winners’ medals not five.
