Entrance Tests

All students from KG1 upwards are expected to sit entrance tests in English and Mathematics, as well as Thinking Skills from Form 1 onwards. Students entering Early Learners and Pre KG have an interview with the Class Teachers instead, where their skills and readiness for school are assessed. Admission is based on a student’s performance on these tests, their reports from their previous school and interviews. Although Elizabeth Moir School is academically selective, we aim to assess applicants based on their future potential rather than just their current attainment and also take other factors into consideration, such as character, attitude and extra-curricular achievements.

Special Needs

We have limited resources to provide for students with Special Educational Needs. We are not normally able to admit students with Special Needs, therefore, and will not take a student if we feel we cannot provide for their individual needs.

Scholarships

Each year, the school offers scholarships to both internal and external students for the IGCSE and A Level courses. The scholarships are highly prestigious. Students receive a maximum discount of half of the school fees, with further remissions based on financial need. Candidates are expected to have an exceptional academic record, and to have shown themselves to be leaders in the classroom in terms of effort and participation as well as achievement. We are looking for students who not only possess natural flair for their subjects but also display genuine interest in learning.

Scholarships are also available for students who meet the school’s academic entry criteria and excel in Sports or the Creative and Performing Arts.

Frequently Asked Questions

We take students' educational background into consideration when we mark entrance tests and assess students based on what they do know, not what they do not. As an international school, we are used to helping students adjust to our style of teaching and assessment if they have come from a different system.

Although it is always better for students to join at the start of the academic year in September, we recognise that this is not always possible. Teachers are used to students joining during a school year and will give them whatever help they need to catch up, even modifying end-of-term exams if required.

Class sizes have strict limits to ensure that each child receives the individual attention they need. At the Junior School, Early Learners has a maximum of 12 students and no class is allowed to go above 22 students. All classes have 2 teachers. At the Senior School, the limit for any class is 24 students and classes normally have 16–20 students.

There are induction sessions for both the students and parents of Early Learners in the week before the academic year starts. A third teacher is also employed for the first month to help children settle quickly and easily.

The academic year starts in the last week of August or first week of September. There are 3 terms in the academic year.

The safety of the children entrusted to us is our first priority. Students can be dropped and collected inside the school premises, the entry to the school is permanently supervised by security guards and there is state-of-the-art CCTV. All buildings have fire escapes and multiple exits, there are new fire safety systems and well-practised evacuation and lockdown drills.

The school is located between two hospitals and a gate provides direct access to one in an emergency. There is a School Nurse provided by this hospital and regular First Aid courses for staff from both schools, certified by the American Safety and Health Institute.
